Living in small spaces, it feels like your decorating options are limited. The things you really want to do to your condo can like it’s a no-go, and your left with decorating only with the bare minimum. This doesn’t have to be the case, though! Despite how small your condo’s spaces may be, it is entirely possible to decorate your condo in the way you want to decorate it! It all starts with knowing exactly how to decorate in order to save the ultimate space. At The Condo Store, we love unique, new ways to maximize space and decorate accordingly. Below are a few of our favourite tips for decorating around small condo spaces.

Maximize Space

Define each space

Especially if you are living in an open floor plan, the first thing to do is to define each small space. This is crucial: failing to do so can make your spaces messy over time. Messiness in small spaces is only going to make your condo feel cramped, so avoid this at costs (and keep your condo clean, too!).

Place a coat and shoe rack by your front door to define an entryway. From there, place a storage area between the dining and kitchen area. This can be optional since some people enjoy having the kitchen and dining area all in one place; if this isn’t you, define each space accordingly.

Use folding, multi-purpose furniture when possible

The convenience of multi-purpose furniture cannot be understated! One of the biggest hassles of living in a small condo space is decorating around your furniture: multi-purpose furniture that fixes this. For example, consider adding a hollow couch and coffee table that can both be used for storage (it’s the perfect place to store blankets, pillows, miscellaneous items, etc.).

Also consider a folding desk if you have a corner of the condo where you work. This can save a serious amount of space where your workstation would take up a lot of room. Feel like being healthy while you work? Say no to the desk altogether and opt for a standing desk: once you’re done, simply fold it and store it away in a closet.

Multi Purpose Furniture

Keep it lit!

The downside to living in small condo spaces is that you’re always dealing with unlit spaces. This can make the home feel like a dungeon if you’re not careful, but luckily there’s a solution to keeping it lit. Be sure to add light sources in every room – but be sure to utilize your space strategically. Add standing lamps when they will fit into your spaces; if this is a challenge, consider ceiling and wall lamps. Add mirrors across from light sources so light will reflect and ultimately make your spaces look bigger.

A rug is a must – but choose the right one!

Tiny rugs will make you feel like you’re living in a dollhouse. Avoid this altogether by choosing a rug that will take up most of the floor in a room. This makes the space look sophisticated and elegant while making it look larger than it is. Be sure the rug is a neutral tone that goes well with your room’s spaces. You don’t want anything too bright, otherwise it will take the vibe away from the rest of the room’s décor!
